Is acai berry a healthy fruit?
Acai berry is a fruit which is dark brown or purple in color. It comes from the acai palm tree. (Euterpe oleracea), and is cultivated in the rain forest of the Amazon basin in Brazil and Peru. However it got publicity by the media because of the several benefits of the fruit. It is highly nutritious because it has large amount of vitamins, amino-acids, omega-acids and several other minerals. Besides, it has several medicinal benefits as well like:
- It has high anti-oxidants which help in eliminating toxins present in intestinal tract.
- It is used as a natural colon cleanser
- It helps in minimizing free radicals and thus prevents ageing.
- It has high fiber content which helps it in curing constipation problem.
- It is highly energetic and its juice can be used as a health drink.
The acai berry fruit needs to be processed before use and it cannot be eaten directly after hand-picking because about only 10% of pulp is present and the remaining part is seed.
It needs to be consumed within 24 hours of hand-picking as it cannot be preserved for long. The fruit is also used for making other products in the form of supplements as powder extract, acai fruit juice, pills and capsules.
One should keep this in mind that the berry which is darker in color has more nutritional value. It helps in maintaining the fitness and vitality of the body. However the most important use of this food is in reducing the extra weight.
